Our mission

At Spring Behavioral Health Solutions we strive to support a resilient community by providing behavioral health solutions to optimize individuals' performance and emotional well-being, one person at a time.

Who we are

SBHS is managed and operated by Dr. Paul Alan Williamson and his wife, Elise Williamson. Paul focuses on psychological assessment and psychotherapy while Elise supports the business side of the practice. Lindsay Sherwood, LMFT has also joined the clinic, assisting with autism assessments and providing marriage and family therapy.

Dr. Paul Alan Williamson

Dr. Paul Alan Williamson

Dr. Williamson holds bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in psychology and specializes in psychological assessment and evidence-based treatment. Through his academic training and years as an Air Force psychologist, he developed an investigative approach to assessment and treatment — yielding results for clients for whom previous interventions had not been effective. During his military career he received scores of referrals from other providers for specialized evaluation and treatment. Now in private practice, he seeks to provide that same high-quality, specialized care for the people of Alaska.

Elise Williamson

Elise manages the business side of the SBHS practice, partnering with Paul so that he can focus on psychological assessment and psychotherapy. Together they built Spring Behavioral Health Solutions to extend specialized, compassionate care to the people of Alaska.

Specialized psychological evaluations

Just as some cases need a provider who specializes in a specific condition, some benefit from a provider who specializes in diagnostics and identifying individualized, best-fit solutions. Similar symptom presentations can be manifestations of different conditions — and even when conditions match, the causes may differ. Precision diagnostics improve outcomes by aligning treatments with the conditions and root causes they best suit. When the picture is unclear, or previous interventions haven't helped, a specialized evaluation may be indicated.

Individualized, evidence-based treatment

We don't treat conditions; we work with individuals. Research consistently shows two of the strongest predictors of success are a good client–therapist rapport and matching clients to treatments that correspond to their diagnosed conditions. Dr. Williamson weighs your preferences and the unique characteristics of your condition, then recommends the intervention most likely to fit — providing it himself, or referring you to a more specialized provider when that serves you best.

Treatment modalities

Evidence-based approaches we draw on

01

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

An umbrella term for a large family of treatments sharing common, well-validated principles.

02

Prolonged Exposure Therapy

For trauma reactions — re-engaging important activities avoided because of their link to past trauma.

03

CBT for Insomnia (CBT-I)

The gold standard for insomnia (even over medication): sleep hygiene, stimulus control, and sleep restriction.

04

Behavior Activation

Rebuilds motivation and desire so you can do the things that lead to improved well-being and performance.

05

Unified Protocol for Emotional Disorders

Combines cognitive and behavioral methods for a broad range of anxiety and mood disorders.

06

Cognitive Processing Therapy

A trauma treatment focused on thoughtful processing of traumatic events and their impact.

07

Interpersonal Reconstructive Therapy

Identifies how developmental experiences create patterns that reinforce depression, anxiety, and anger.

08

In-vivo & Interoceptive Exposure

Exposure-based behavior therapies with durable outcomes long after treatment ends.

09

Cognitive Restructuring

Trains you to recognize automatic thoughts and reshape how they influence emotion and behavior.

10

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Uses flexibility and mindfulness to live fully despite unremitting symptoms — valuable for chronic pain.
