Questions & Answers

The answers you need before you reach out

Insurance, fees, what to expect, and how to begin — all in one place.

Do you take insurance?
Yes. We're in-network with Premera Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alaska and other Blue plans covered through BCBS shared administration (for example, Federal BCBS). We also facilitate courtesy out-of-network billing with most other carriers — you'll usually pay more than with an in-network provider, but often still have part covered. We aren't currently paneled with Medicare or Medicaid, though we plan to empanel with Medicaid soon.
How much do sessions cost?
Standard self-pay rates are: Consultation — free; Intake Assessment — $360; Individual Therapy — $160 to $250; Group Therapy — $150; Specialized Psychological Assessment — variable, scoped before scheduling. Actual out-of-pocket cost may be significantly lower with a qualified health plan. (Rates listed are as of 2021; please confirm current fees with the office.)
What happens at the first appointment?
A routine intake lasts about 90 minutes — a comprehensive look at your symptoms, their history, the impact on your performance, and key contextual factors. The goal is a complete picture of what you're dealing with, which we use to identify the most effective path forward. We share the results with you, including diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment recommendations.
Do you offer telehealth?
Yes — the free 15-minute consultation is held by video, and telehealth options are available for care. In-person appointments are at our Anchorage office, 205 E Benson Blvd.
How long does treatment usually take?
It varies, but many clients have follow-up appointments once or twice a week for the first month or two, with frequency decreasing as treatment gains appear. Ideally treatment wraps up in eight to sixteen weeks, though it can run longer when needed. Sessions generally last 20 to 70 minutes.
What's the difference between an intake and a specialized assessment?
A 90-minute intake is usually enough to guide treatment planning. A specialized psychological assessment is for cases where the diagnostic picture is unclear or previous treatment hasn't worked — using instruments like the MMPI-3, MCMI-IV, and Wechsler scales to identify processes you may be unaware of. Costs vary by scope and are discussed before scheduling.
What is a Good Faith Estimate (No Surprises Act)?
Under the federal No Surprises Act, if you're uninsured or paying out of pocket you have the right to a Good Faith Estimate of the expected cost of your care before your visit. We're happy to provide one on request. Keep your estimate, and ask any time you have questions about cost.
How do I get started?
Call or text (907) 227-7246, or send a message from the Start Therapy page. You can set up an intake right away, or begin with a free 15-minute consultation. Existing clients sign in through the secure Client Portal.
Can I email private health information?
Please don't. Email and web forms are not secure messaging platforms, so don't include private health information in them. For anything sensitive, we'll connect you through a secure channel.
